A bell housing, also known as a clutch housing, is a component of your supercar's gearbox that connects the engine to the gearbox. It is a bell-shaped housing, hence the name, that surrounds the flywheel and clutch or torque converter. The bell housing also provides a mounting point for the starter motor. The functionality of a bell housing is to transfer power from the engine to the gearbox smoothly and efficiently. It does this by aligning the rotational axes of the engine and gearbox, and by providing a rigid mounting point for the clutch or torque converter. The bell housing also helps to protect the gearbox from heat and vibration.
